Spitfire is a chilli flavoured English, vegetarian, pasteurised cheddar cheese.

Here at Greys we are purists to a large degree and aren't fans of "messed about with" cheeses. That said, our customers love Spitfire, a cheddar style cheese packed with chillies.

It is made for The Oxford Cheese Company, owned by my godfather the Baron Robert Pouget and the description on their website tickled me so much that here it is:       "Although not suitable for delicate palates, Spitfire is a great favourite with pipe smokers and string vested, beer swilling, shaven headed collectors of plastic Alsatians. The perfect accompaniment to a bag of crisps and a lager in front of the telly." To be fair, none of our customers fit that brief, as far as I'm aware, but it does make blinding cheese on toast and is rather fabulous in a burger.

A cheeseboard can be purely British cheeses or French cheese, Italian cheese, Spanish cheese or can be a combination of artisan cheeses from across the world. Unpasteurised or raw milk cheese, traditional or vegetarian cheese, strong cheese, mild cheese, alpine cheese, smelly cheese, fondue cheese..... its up to you.
